SOLID WOOD WORKTOP GUIDE

SOLID WOOD WORKTOP GUIDE

As the hardest-wearing surface in your home, your kitchen worktop must be strong and resilient. Solid wood worktops offer long-term value and long-lasting style.

Wood is a natural product that can be affected by heat and humidity. It can gain and lose moisture before, during, and after installation. For example, wood expands when it is warm or the humidity level is high and contracts during colder periods or when the humidity level drops. This can cause bowing or warping. There are a few factors to consider when working with solid wood worktops.

See our guide below:

According to the DeTerra worktop guide, you should apply two coats of Osmo Top Oil to all surfaces before installing your wooden worktops, according to the label instructions (the end grains will require more). DeTerra also offers a pre-oiling service; however, they still advise using Osmo Top Oil to protect your worktops.

PREPARATION:

Before cutting your worktop, we advise oiling a small area of your worktops to ensure they match. Please also thoroughly check for any imperfections or bowing that may not be suitable before cutting or altering your worktop.

Before placing the worktops in situ, it is essential to oil ALL the edges and faces at least twice with worktop oil. Allow between 8 and 10 hours between coats.

Most of our worktops do come with an installation guide.

What is it that attracts so many to wooden surfaces? For some, it’s a strength. For others, it’s the natural warmth. For many, however, it’s the fact that wooden surfaces slowly mature to a richer colour over time. However, enjoying the benefits of this versatile material for years to come requires a little regular maintenance.

Our Brands:

All our timber work surfaces are certified per the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council. Moreover, the use of solid wood staves in producing solid wood work surfaces ensures that they maximise the amount of wood used from the tree.

Offering enduring quality and timeless style, Wood work surfaces are a natural product that will slowly mature to a richer, deeper colour.
