Cheapest solution - LAMINATE 
Popular, trusted brands include Duropal, Formica Axiom, Prima, Bushboard, Spectra, Egger, Kronospan/Kronodesign, Lamura, and Tandem.
The cheapest solution for your kitchen is laminate, which will last years; the laminate ranges have come on over the years.
Duropal worktops, for example, are manufactured from high-pressure laminate, and the square and post-formed edge profiles are internationally renowned for innovation and quality. The 'bull-nosed', more rounded front edge is now very much a feature of the '90s. Most brands now feature square-edge worktops and worktops with only a slight profile at the top.
Off-the-shelf availability and the ability to cater to most sizes remain real positives for laminate worktops. Most products have lengths ranging from 3600 to 4100mm, which the joiner/fitter would cut down to size. Duropal also has 2050 (half sizes), which means less waste depending on the overall size of your surfaces.

Mid Range Solution - square edge laminate worktops
Most laminate worktops have a post-formed edge, a rolled edge covered in the same laminate material as the worktop's surface.
The next range of worktops is still laminate, but they have an acrylic front edge, allowing the front edge to be square. This is often required for designs where you may want a rounded corner, and it also acts as a great contrast to the surface. Square-edge worktops would be necessary for waterfall ends or round-ended breakfast bars.

COMPACT LAMINATE WORKTOPS
All brands of this type of product are pretty much made in the same way; Duropal HPL Compact, for example, has a core made of resin-impregnated cellulose sheets, which are faced on both sides with a decorative melamine resin surface.
Most qualities of the through-dyed core are available in optional white, grey or black. In addition, it is available in flame-resistant quality or with IMO certification for ship interiors. Alternatively, it can be produced from mineral constituents and is thus non-combustible.

The Aria range from Formica Group combines the striking aesthetics of natural materials with a highly developed engineering process.

SOLID SURFACE WORKTOPS

Our solid surface range is either solid all the way through or, with Maia, for example, has a chipboard core. Suitably skilled fitters can install and join both. The result should be a beautiful, sleek kitchen surface with inconspicuous joins.
Drainer grooves and under-mount sinks can be fitted with most 20-25mm solid surface worktops.
Again, all brands of this type of product are pretty much made in the same way.
Solid surface worktops like the Maia are thicker than those mentioned above and have a resin-based surface on top of a chipboard core. Due to the chipboard core, we do not advise under-mount sinks with these solid surfaces.
Fitting information and guidelines for all products can be found on our website. Solid surface worktops are installed similarly to laminate worktops. Still, as the fitter sands the surface using sanding pads, the adhesive merges into the surface, creating the impression of no join when this material is fitted well and as instructed by the manufacturer.
Solid-surface worktops look incredible and can be matte or glossy. The finish is entirely up to you.
Solid surface worktops are cheaper than granite but still have that touch of class.
